Kempower has completed its first UK project using a leasing-based finance model, supporting Highway Stops Retail Limited (HSRL) in installing eight fast-charging points at a BP service station in Astwick, Bedfordshire. The project was funded through a flexible finance agreement with Kempower's leasing partner, DLL.
UK – petrol’s lead narrows as EVs close the gap
The model lets charging operators lower the upfront cost of installing infrastructure, addressing one of the main barriers to expanding EV charging networks. Operators using the scheme also receive ongoing maintenance from Kempower alongside the hardware itself. Kempower and DLL began working together in 2024, and now Astwick is the first UK project delivered under the partnership.
Astwick's technical setup
The Astwick site, commissioned in February 2026, sits on the A1 northbound near Hitchin in Hertfordshire. It uses four Kempower Double Satellite units, providing eight CCS2 connection points, linked to two Kempower Power Units capable of delivering up to 400 kW per charger. Hardware procurement, installation and servicing was handled by Yunex Traffic.
"Financing the project through Kempower with DLL was a huge enabler," said Shilan Raja, Director at HSRL. "The agreement we have with DLL helps remove the financial risk for operators, making the decision to commit to EV charging easier than ever," said Rolle Nieminen, Kempower's Head of Sales for the UK & Ireland.
