Croatia launches EV subsidy scheme for private households

The Croatian Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund (FZOEU) has published its call for a new investment grant designed to help private households switch to electric vehicles. Backed by a total budget of €20 million, the scheme aims to lift the share of energy-efficient vehicles among new registrations in Croatia.

The scheme covers electric cars as well as battery-electric motorcycles and mopeds, but is reserved for private individuals with their main residence in Croatia, meaning that companies cannot apply. Applications open on 21 October 2026, and the scheme will then run until 31 March 2028 or until the funds run out.

Luxury buyers need not apply

The FZOEU will pay €9,000 towards an electric car costing up to €35,000. Above that price, the grant falls to €7,000 for cars costing up to €65,000, so that the money reaches as many buyers as possible and does not end up subsidising luxury vehicles. Cars priced at €65,000 or above receive no support at all.

Two-wheelers come with more modest grants. Buyers of electric motorcycles and mopeds can claim a grant of €2,500, provided the vehicle costs no more than €35,000. Whatever the vehicle, the FZOEU will cover no more than 40 percent of the purchase price. Each private individual may receive a grant for only one vehicle, and the subsidy cannot be combined with other funding programmes.

Grants also for leased EVs

To qualify, a vehicle must have been bought no earlier than the day the call was published. Leased vehicles are eligible as well, with support based on the amounts set out in the repayment schedule. Any down payment already made counts only if it was paid before 1 January 2026.

Details of the scheme and the documents required are available on the FZOEU website, in Croatian.
