EU Innovation Fund backs 120 MW agri-PV project in Finland

The project in Loviisa is centred on agrivoltaics, combining solar energy generation with ongoing agricultural use of the land. Its design incorporates AI and tracking systems to optimise both energy output and crop productivity. Finnish renewable energy company 3Flash is co-developing the plant.

Optimising Agri-PV for Finland

The project is expected to generate 155 GWh of electricity each year. Covering more than 225 hectares, it is currently advancing through the zoning process, with the application set to be submitted soon. Construction could start in 2026, pending permitting and grid connection milestones.

RE-Source calls for swift PPA market action

The grant agreement with the European Commission is scheduled to be signed by March 2026, and discussions with a corporate offtaker on a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) are ongoing. “We need new net-zero technology initiatives across different sectors as we move away from a fossil-based economy. Success in EU-level funding rounds demonstrates how Finland’s innovation and technology expertise can provide interesting solutions to address global challenges,” said Minister of the Environment and Climate Sari Multala.
