Agrivoltaics:

Agri-PV research plant EWS Sonnenfeld launched

The pilot plant serves research and demonstration purposes in order to bring agrivoltaics plants on arable land and grassland to market maturity. In the coming years, research will be conducted into which crops and forms of cultivation are best suited to simultaneous solar power production. Even though the technical components have already been tested for many years, there are still some open questions regarding the combination with agricultural use. Among other things, a wide variety of technical designs of photovoltaic systems will be used.

Dual use for agriculture and solar power

With Boku Vienna, a research partner is also on board. "Within the framework of the project, agricultural-technical and crop-growing questions on the topic of Agri-PV can be addressed. This can be used to develop concepts for sustainable dual use of agricultural land," says Alexander Bauer. He works for the Institute of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna and is taking over the scientific management of the project in cooperation with the Institute of Crop Production. Fraunhofer ISE and Baywa r.e. are also currently working more intensively on the topic of Argi-PV. (nhp/mfo)
