Italy – European Energy invests in 225 MW Sicilian agri-PV

Authorised in 2023, the €200 million project combines utility-scale solar generation with agricultural activity and is designed to support both Italy’s long-term energy strategy and wider EU decarbonisation goals. The development features elevated PV structures to enable continued farming operations, ensuring dual land use and sustained productivity.

Italy: 1.5 gigawatts of agri-PV will receive funding

Once operational, the agri-PV installation will be among the largest solar parks in Italy. The Vizzini project is scheduled for commissioning by the end of 2027. In Italy, agri-PV is the sole option for building solar plants on agricultural land; all other types of solar parks are not permitted. (hcn)
