Developed in Germany, the energy management platform links generation, storage, heat pumps, charging stations and other consumer devices with the grid, controlling them according to electricity production and price. The storage unit can also draw from the grid during low-price windows, with dynamic tariffs integrated via the EPEX Spot connection and providers such as Rabot Energy and Ostrom. According to Voltara, more than 100 devices from various manufacturers are compatible.
The accompanying storage is modular and configurable from 5 to 30 kWh per unit as well as expandable to as much as 120 kWh through cascading. Each battery module has its own management system and DC converter and can be added independently of any ageing effects in existing modules. Four MPP trackers and a DC-to-AC oversizing ratio of up to two to one allow up to 24 kW to be connected to a single inverter with 12 kW of AC output.
A three-phase backup power function with a 10-millisecond switchover time and black-start capability is integrated as standard. Voltara Home communicates in real time with Wolf heat pumps via the EEBus standard. The platform rolls out to partner companies with immediate effect. (nhp)
