Two markets and scaling: Nexis storage reaches 80 kWh

SolarEdge has brought its Nexis residential PV and storage platform to Austria and Switzerland, extending a rollout that began in Germany only weeks ago. The Nexis pairs a new three-phase hybrid inverter delivering up to 20 kW with a modular battery that scales from 5 kWh to 80 kWh per inverter, allowing homeowners to expand storage in small increments as consumption grows. The full 80 kWh configuration is expected in the first quarter of 2027, and the current firmware supports three battery stacks totalling 60 kWh.

The inverter weighs 30.6 kg, roughly half the footprint of earlier models at double the output, and uses silicon carbide semiconductors for higher efficiency and power density. SolarEdge claims particular gains at low output, where conventional residential installations spend around 70 percent of their operating hours: at these levels, the company says, Nexis achieves up to 20 percent higher efficiency than leading European competitors.

Block-by-block battery management

A new battery optimiser isolates, monitors and manages each 5 kWh LFP block independently, activating one block at a time at low output to lift overall efficiency. Blocks click together without cabling in a design the company likens to Lego, and the ThermoShield safety architecture confines thermal events to a single cell, permitting installation indoors or out. A backup interface supplies the whole house with up to 20 kW in the event of an outage.
