PL – Sungrow to open 12.5 GWh storage and 20 GW inverter plant

The 65,400 m² factory in the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone is designed to support large-scale production, with annual capacity of up to 20 GW for inverters and 12.5 GWh for battery storage systems. According to Sungrow, it will integrate advanced manufacturing and quality assurance capabilities. In addition to strengthening local production, the facility is intended to enhance logistics across Europe by locating key manufacturing activities closer to customers, reducing lead times, enabling more efficient distribution and supporting supply chain stability. The factory is expected to create around 400 new jobs in Lower Silesia.

The range of products manufactured in Wałbrzych will cover applications from residential to utility scale, a spokesperson for Sungrow, Quirin Löffelmeier, told pv Europe. The exact products to be manufactured at the site will be determined later this year. For battery cell sourcing, the company will rely on its global partnership network. Löffelmeier did not provide specific information on production costs for inverters and batteries at the Lower Silesia factory compared with production in China, noting that manufacturing costs depend on a range of factors, making global comparisons difficult.

EU commits to 56 GWh of new battery production capacity

“We chose Poland not because of labour costs. The country offers a very stable and business-friendly environment, with strong economic fundamentals, solid infrastructure and policies that align well with our long-term strategy in Europe. Producing in Poland gives us good access to the EU market, which is beneficial for our local customers,” Löffelmeier told pv Europe.

Subsidies were also not a decisive factor in the choice of location. “Lower Silesia’s history of skilled technical expertise in electronics, automation and advanced manufacturing made it the prime location for our new factory. We intend to hire locally to tap into this expertise,” underlined Shawn Shi, President of Sungrow Europe. (hcn)
