Fenecon to build new factory for large-scale storage with used batteries

Fenecon has already been producing large container storage units from electric vehicle batteries since 2017. Small series production is currently still taking place at the plant in Künzing. From the end of 2023, the new large-scale production is to start in Iggensbach. The company will receive €1.7 million of the investment from the Bavarian Economic Development Agency and €4.5 million from the EU Innovation Fund. "This will increase Fenecon's production capacities, open up new markets and secure further growth," says Fenecon CEO and founder Franz-Josef Feilmeier.

The highlight: Fenecon's container storage units consist of spare part batteries and those that have already been used in vehicles. With the large-scale storage units, industrial companies, energy suppliers or charging park operators can temporarily store electricity in the future and thus increase grid stability. The hardware and software can actually combine car batteries from different manufacturers and of different ages. As soon as a battery in the system has reached the end of its life, it can simply be replaced in the container storage system and transferred for recycling. (nhp/mfo)
