KEY 2026 – Longi and JA Solar step up European storage push

In mid-November 2025, Longi acquired a majority stake in Chinese storage manufacturer PotisEdge. With this move, the module and cell producer followed competitors Trinasolar, Jinko Solar, Canadian Solar and JA Solar, which have already been offering storage solutions for some time, as have major inverter manufacturers such as Sungrow and Huawei. In addition, at the end of November, Longi announced the establishment of its first Solar-Storage Technology Innovation Center in Europe, based in London.

“We wanted to ensure that we entered the battery business with a reliable partner and the highest possible quality standards, which required a longer selection process,” explained Giorgia Dolzani, responsible for European communications at Longi’s Utility Business Group, in conversation with pv Europe at the KEY trade fair in Rimini, addressing the relatively late market entry. The manufacturer and storage integrator Potisedge brings many years of experience, offers technologically advanced and safe products – and, alongside its China business, had already sold storage systems with a total capacity of 3.5 GW overseas in 2025. The battery cells are purchased from external suppliers.

Although PotisEdge also offers residential storage systems in China, the European business has focused on commercial and utility-scale battery storage, partly for competitive reasons, according to Dolzani. Storage solutions are available from 100 kWh to 6.25 MWh. To build its European storage business, Longi is now looking for both additional staff and partners.

“We are hiring more people, because we are establishing a dedicated storage team, so that we can follow up the market and also support our PV module team,” said Dolzani. “We are also looking for partners within the industry, who have expertise, for example in the field of maintenance and operations and possibly after-sales services as well.”

Local service is crucial in the highly regionally differentiated European market. The aim is to gradually expand service offerings for commercial and utility-scale storage, including project management and financing.

At KEY, JA Solar presented its JA Planet 125 kW / 261 kWh commercial storage system with lithium iron phosphate batteries. The system can be scaled to 20 units, equivalent to 5.2 MWh, allowing adaptation to a wide range of commercial and industrial use cases. It features AI-based predictive maintenance and remote diagnostics to support high availability. Later this year, JA Solar also plans to launch a utility-scale battery storage system, reported Gianluca Michieletto, marketing and social media manager, in conversation with pv Europe. However, due to intense competition, the company does not plan to offer residential storage systems in Europe. (hcn)
