Amazon invests in 39 green energy projects

Amazon has thus initiated more than 160 wind and solar projects in 13 European countries. Once all the projects are operational, they will provide around 5.8 gigawatts. That is enough to supply the equivalent of more than 5.4 million German households with electricity annually. In Germany, Amazon is currently the largest private purchaser of green electricity for 676 megawatts of output, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. This includes two offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, which together enable 320 megawatts of green energy for Amazon.

Amazons has invested 2.4 billion euros in Europe

Amazon has also announced its first solar farm in Greece. Last year, Amazon invested in its first commercial solar park in Poland. Amazon itself aims to fully power its own operations with renewable energy by 2025, announces manager Lindsay McQuade. Five years ahead of the original target of 2030. In 2022, 90 per cent of Amazon's global electricity consumption already came from renewable energy sources.

According to Amazon's calculations, its own wind and solar farms helped generate investments of over 2.4 billion euros in Europe between 2014 and 2022. Amazon has calculated its investments in renewable energies according to the guidelines of the US Department of Energy. This takes into account commercial projects that are already under construction, came online between 2014 and 2022 or are expected to come online in 2023. (nhp/mfo)
