Solar production:

Singulus Technologies helps set up new cell production in Europe

Singulus Technologies, a manufacturer of production equipment for photovoltaics, will supply a major European energy supplier with wet-chemical systems that will be used in cell production. The company is not disclosing which utility is involved. However, it is already clear that the new production line will manufacture high-performance heterojunction solar cells. The factory is to have a capacity of several gigawatts.

Responding to the supply situation

This means that production capacity in Europe will continue to increase in the near future, which is a good sign for the industry in view of the supply shortages in general and in the solar module market in particular. This is because the currently limited supply of solar modules is being met by a rapidly increasing demand. One reason for the supply bottlenecks is the low supply of components for photovoltaic modules such as solar cells on the world market. With the cell factory now planned in Europe, the project partners are tackling this problem.

It is not yet clear when the new factory will go into operation. However, according to Stefan Rinck, Managing Director of Singulus Technologies, once production starts it will be the largest production facility for high-performance solar cells. (su/mfo)
