The system builds on the manufacturer's standard base frames, which are laid directly on the substrate in line with the layout plan. Frames are bolted together and then weighted down with specially shaped ballast stones. These feature a groove on the underside that fits over the lower legs of the base frames, anchoring them to the roof.
The number of ballast stones required depends on the wind loads at the site. Where higher loads apply, the stones can be stacked, interlocking via a tongue-and-groove fit. Lateral grooves make them easier to handle, and base frames are sized to leave sufficient clearance between the plants and the modules, preventing overgrowth. (nhp)
