Swiss solar sector continues its strong growth

Another record was broken in membership figures: for the first time, Swissolar has more than 1,000 members with a total of over 10,000 employees.

In the coming year 2024, the new training programme for solar technicians will start. There is great interest from training companies and prospective skilled workers. In the medium term, the industry needs around a thousand new employees.

Just under six per cent of demand

Solar power already contributed 5.8 percent to Switzerland's electricity supply in 2022. Around 200,000 photovoltaic systems are currently installed. The order books of most companies are well filled.

In 2022, more than 1,140 people attended a training or further education course offered by Swissolar. That was twice as many as in the previous year. The range of courses is being steadily expanded.

New training starts in summer 2024

The first courses of the solar apprenticeships developed by Swissolar and the Polybau training centre will start in 2024. Around 130 companies have announced that they will participate. The new education ordinance will come into force on 1 October 2023. From then on, the apprenticeship contracts will be concluded between the companies and the future solar technicians. The first year of training will start in summer 2024 (HS/mfo).
