The Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket) has been commissioned by the government to draw up proposals on how type approval for single-family homes could be introduced, and its report is now out for consultation.

The commission's aim is to facilitate the construction of detached houses through standardised, efficient processes, resulting in shorter lead times and lower costs. Svensk Solenergi is responding to the consultation. If the proposals are adopted, type approval could create favourable conditions for standardised solar installations on detached houses, benefiting the industry.

One point Svensk Solenergi will raise is the link to the EPBD and the need to prepare buildings for solar installations, an issue the report does not address. Requirements for suitable solar energy installations will apply to all new residential buildings by 31 December 2029 at the latest, where technically appropriate and economically and functionally feasible. The fix, Svensk Solenergi argues, will be to incorporate solar from the outset. (hcn)
