Spain steps up PV innovation with startup platform

The Plataforma Tecnológica Española Fotovoltaica (Fotoplat) is organising its annual assembly on 28 April at the state research agency Agencia Estatal de Investigación in Madrid. The meeting will bring together research institutions, investors, startups and companies from the photovoltaic sector.

Mapping innovation by region

At the assembly, Fotoplat will present a map of Spain’s research and innovation capacities, broken down by autonomous region. The aim is to highlight regional strengths across different technology fields and support the industrialisation of research results.

Spain – collective self-consumption set for regulatory reset

According to Fotoplat, the Spanish photovoltaic sector invests more than €500 million in research and development each year, more than twice the average for Spanish companies. Key areas include tracker technology, power electronics, electrification, flexibility, digitalisation, storage, module recycling and new approaches to reducing the levelised cost of energy for operation and maintenance of solar plants.

Startup pitches and lightning talks

A central format is the “Solar Innovation Tank”, where selected startups present their solutions to industry representatives and investors. The programme also includes “Lightning Talks”, five minute presentations on new technologies and project results, and a business case will demonstrate the profitability of innovations that have reached the market. The event is free of charge and open to the public upon registration. See the full programme and speaker list. (nhp)
