IBC Solar has developed two huge photovoltaic plants

The project developer IBC Solar will expand its business in Poland. The international project division of the company has sold the project rights to two solar parks in western Poland with a total output of 120 megawatts to the Israeli energy company Afcon Renewable Energy.

600 megawatts in planning

The development of the two plants is already well advanced. Afcon Renewable Energy will complete the projects until they are ready for construction through development contracts with local contractors. "The signing of the contract is the start of our joint project activities with Afcon, which will also be expanded to other countries. The sale to Afcon is just one part of our more than 600 megawatt project pipeline in Poland, which will be continuously expanded," Patrik Danz, Head of Sales at IBC Solar, notes in prospect.

"These two projects are an important addition to our project portfolio in general and in Poland in particular. Afcon continues to invest in attractive large-scale solar projects and this acquisition strengthens our position as a major player in the renewable energy market in Europe," adds Israel Raif, Chairman of Afcon.

Subsidiary established

In order to be able to implement all these projects safely, IBC Solar has founded a subsidiary in Poland and thus expanded its local capacities. IBC Solar has been active in Poland as a project developer and system provider for some time. So far, however, mainly in the private customer sector as well as in the segment of commercial and industrial roof systems, as Wojciech Prokopowicz, Managing Director of IBC Solar Polska, explains. This is now to be expanded and intensified through the new subsidiary to the market segment of ground-mounted systems.

Polish solar market growing rapidly

Poland is a market where renewable energies are gaining increasing attention. The potential for building plants is huge. After all, according to IBC Solar, Poland's electricity market is the largest in Eastern Europe and one of the growth markets in Europe. In addition, Poland has set itself the goal of reducing its carbon footprint in line with adopted EU regulations, which will lead to a rapid transition in the country's power generation.

In fact, the Polish government is aiming for a share of electricity generation from renewable energies of over 30 per cent by 2030. In its latest Global Market Outlook, the industry association Solar Power Europe assumes that the addition of photovoltaic systems in Poland will increase by 15 to 28 gigawatts by 2026. This would make the country the fourth largest solar market in Europe after Germany, Spain and the Netherlands and roughly equal to France and ahead of Italy. (su/mfo)
