Poland – Częstochowa rolls out home storage under EU project

Częstochowa, an industrial and academic centre in southern Poland, has launched a programme to deploy home storage systems under the “Słoneczna Gmina II” project. The first units, with 10 and 6 kilowatt‑hour capacities, are being installed by regional companies and funded by the European Fund for Silesia 2021–2027. The regional government aims to help households store excess renewable energy, increase self‑consumption, reduce pressure on the electricity grid and improve supply security. Reportedly, the participant selection is complete and installations are underway.

Transformation ongoing since 2012

Częstochowa has been a member of the Polish Network of Energy Cities since 2012 and has adopted its own energy and climate protection strategy, the “Sustainable Energy Action Plan Częstochowa.” The objectives include reducing greenhouse‑gas emissions, improving energy efficiency in both the public and private sectors, increasing the share of renewable energy in electricity and heat supply, promoting sustainable, climate‑conscious urban development and enhancing quality of life and environmental protection. The electricity‑storage project is one component of these goals. (mg)
