In the forests of Teuva and Lapinlahti, Sungrow and Delta Capacity are turning a paper agreement into working batteries to back Finland's fast-growing renewables build-out. The 1 GWh framework deal the two companies signed in Munich in June now covers two projects, Kärppiö and Lapinlahti, each rated 125 MW / 300 MWh for a combined 600 MWh of battery storage.

Kärppiö and Lapinlahti have drawn different backers. At Kärppiö, Strioga Family Foundation, the investment vehicle of the family behind Lithuanian developer E Energija, has come in as co-investor, the same fortnight it agreed a separate stake in a 150 MW battery project in Tuscany. Centrica Energy brings energy trading expertise, NEPower handles electrification and the substation, and Despro is the local planning and engineering partner. At Lapinlahti, Covenergo bought the ready-to-build AKKU One project outright and holds majority ownership, while Delta Capacity takes the contractor's seat, running offtake, construction and long-term asset management as EPCM. Rejlers, NYAB, Ampner and GreenPowerMonitor, part of DNV Group, handle technical support, electrical works, grid connection studies and energy management systems.
Grid balancing for a clean power system
Once operational, the batteries will support Finland's grid through frequency regulation and balancing services as wind and solar expand. "Sungrow's reliable technology supports our goal of building the flexible capacity that Finland's power system needs as renewable energy expands," said Patrik Hes, chief executive of Delta Capacity. "Flexible and reliable storage will be decisive there for integrating growing volumes of renewable energy and strengthening grid resilience," said Moritz Rolf, Sungrow Europe's vice president for DACH, the Nordics, Benelux and Turkey.
A growing Nordic partnership
The projects extend a strategic partnership between Sungrow and Delta Capacity in the Nordic region. Delta Capacity, founded in Switzerland in 2022, has nearly 1,000 MWh currently under construction and aims to develop more than 6 GWh of flexible storage assets by 2030, a pipeline that also includes the recently completed Ånge project in Sweden.
