Alight and Lear expand European partnership across carports and rooftops

Alight is expanding its onsite solar partnership with Lear Corp. through new behind-the-meter projects at Lear's European Electronics headquarters in Valls, Spain, and at two manufacturing facilities in Bieruń and Tychy, Poland. At Valls, Alight has commissioned a 1.4 MW solar carport covering around 400 parking spaces and eight EV charging stations, more than doubling the site's solar capacity alongside an existing 1 MW rooftop array that has been operating for three years. In Poland, new rooftop systems at Bieruń and Tychy supply renewable electricity directly to factory operations, helping Lear reduce emissions and limit exposure to long-term price volatility.

"Our partnership with Alight helps us integrate renewable energy directly into our operations," said Josef Chrzanowski, vice president of global sustainability at Lear Corp. "The new carport in Valls, together with the rooftop projects in Poland, demonstrate how we can use our facilities to generate clean power, reduce costs, increase resilience and support our global sustainability commitments."

"Demand side flexibility is a strategic asset"

All three installations have been delivered under Alight's Solar-as-a-Service model, in which the developer finances, builds, owns and operates the systems while Lear purchases the electricity through long-term agreements. The arrangement allows companies to adopt onsite generation without upfront capital outlay. With these additions, Alight and Lear now operate across six European sites representing more than 6 MW of installed capacity. (hcn)
