With 406 GW of solar online and a few cloud platforms steering much of the fleet, Brussels advisers want tighter rules on where inverters and firmware come from, and who supplies them.

A single cloud platform now coordinates around 195 GW of PV capacity worldwide. In a report presented on 1 October, the Smart Energy Expert Group identifies three cybersecurity risks it rates as high and calls on the EU to restrict high-risk suppliers for systems of all sizes. (hcn)
