Sector coupling

SMA cooperates with Samsung on sector coupling - via a cloud solution

SMA and Samsung will link their communication. This will allow heating devices such as heat pumps from Samsung to be integrated into SMA's energy management. However, the two companies will not physically realise the communication of the respective systems. Instead, they will use a cloud-to-cloud solution. This allows solar systems with inverters from SMA to be integrated into the smart home world of Samsung at the same time.

Forecast-based control possible

This makes even more applications possible. Because the Sunny Home Manager from SMA not only enables the integration of heat pumps, energy generators, battery storage as well as wallboxes and household appliances such as washing machines. The Manager controls all energy flows fully automatically thanks to self-learning algorithms and forecast-based weather data. This also allows the heat pump to be optimally supplied with solar power without much additional effort.

"Our goal with our solutions is to provide all users with a secure and climate-friendly energy supply. The new cloud-to-cloud solution from SMA and Samsung is another important building block in this regard," says Jan Van Laethem, who heads the home segment at SMA. "Users benefit from the easy integration of Samsung Eco Heating Systems and can easily control energy generators and energy users in the home thanks to the networking of energy or smart home management communication."

Keeping an eye on energy consumption

For Samsung, the simple integration of SMA systems is also an advantage. "This enables our customers to have a smart and efficient solution for heating and hot water, as well as monitoring and controlling their energy consumption and carbon emissions," explains Chanwoo Park, head of the IoT Business Group of the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics.
