European Energy has partnered with Capalo AI to optimise and trade energy from two hybrid solar-and-battery storage projects in Lithuania and Latvia. The partnership covers European Energy's Anykščiai hybrid park in Lithuania and Saldus Hybrid Park in Latvia, forming part of the company's continued expansion of battery storage and hybrid renewable energy projects across the Baltic region.
Lithuania’s storage roll-out sharpens key grid lessons
At Anykščiai, a 25 MW / 65 MWh battery energy storage system is co-located with an existing 78 MW solar park. The hybrid facility began operations in earnest in June 2026, with Capalo AI providing optimisation and trading services for the asset. The Saldus Hybrid Park in Latvia combines a 46 MW / 105 MWh battery with a 65.7 MW solar park, enabling electricity generation and storage to be managed together and allowing the project to respond more flexibly to changing conditions in the electricity system.
Opinion: Battery storage is becoming growth infrastructure
Pairing solar with battery storage gives hybrid projects like Anykščiai and Saldus more room to respond to both market signals and grid needs. Electricity can be stored when conditions allow and released when demand calls for it, with the two parks able to balance themselves behind the meter and contribute to ancillary services that support grid stability.
