As part of the initiative, Siemens will deploy its Gridscale X software to support grid modernisation in Trieste. The platform will create a digital twin of the municipal network, providing full situational awareness and enhancing grid management capabilities.
By simulating grid conditions, Gridscale X will help AcegasApsAmga identify congestion risks and calculate the energy required to ensure grid stability. This is critical for integrating distributed energy resources (DERs) and meeting the high energy demands of the Port of Trieste. Handling over 70 million tonnes of cargo annually, the port is a strategic node in Europe’s logistics network and a key focus of Trieste’s energy transition.
Expert analysis: As we rebuild the grid, we must rethink its management
AcegasApsAmga and Siemens have worked together for over a century, with the DSO relying on Siemens’ SCADA and ADMS systems to enhance grid performance. The introduction of Gridscale X marks a further step in this partnership, supporting the city’s electrification roadmap while maintaining system reliability. “As the power grid increases in complexity, we need to embrace digitalization to optimize its performance and resilience,” said Sabine Erlinghagen, CEO of Siemens Grid Software.
