The Mannheim-based energy supplier MVV has concluded a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Deutsche Bahn. MVV's trading company, MVV Trading, will supply Deutsche Bahn's subsidiary, DB Energie, with 160 gigawatt hours of green electricity over the next four years.

36.5 megawatts of output for the railway
The electricity will come from three recently commissioned solar parks in Bremelau and Heudorf in Baden-Württemberg and Röckingen in Bavaria. The three plants have a total output of 36.5 megawatts and generate around 40 gigawatt hours of solar power every year. This is sufficient to fulfil the agreed delivery. The solar parks were built by Juwi, MVV's own project development subsidiary.
Delivery starts at the beginning of the year
The supply of solar power will start on 1 January 2024. In addition to the electricity, DB Energie will also receive the guarantees of origin produced in the plants. "By supplying sustainable energy from renewable sources, MVV Trading is supporting Deutsche Bahn's decarbonisation targets.
