Leaders of our industry:

Thomas Krausse of BlueSky Energy

Last week you got to meet Kristian Ruby of Eurelectric. Now it is the turn of Thomas Krausse of BlueSky Energy to answer our six questions:

1. How are you personally – and as a company – coping with the corona crisis?

Adapting to new situations fits the description of what’s currently going on. With an open mind one sees opportunities you did not think of before. Besides all the difficulties coming along with the virus it offers us some urge to rethink our current live style and daily routine. I am sure some changes for good will route back to 2020. From a private perspective I am a family and outdoor guy. Both are my sources of recreation and both are even more important – and luckily still possible – in current times.

2. What are you enthusiastic about, apart from your company?

Nature and mountain sports. I like being outdoors. It settles my mind and I find inspiration for new tasks. Appreciating what environment offers us and working on it to keep it for our future generations – this is what I feel enthusiastic about.

3. What social media account or podcast makes your life better?

I am not that active on social media. Thinking of it - one comes to my mind: Checker Tobi on YouTube. He explains scientific topics in easy language for kids. My kids love it. Besides that, explaining things in simple words helps to improve communication in business life.

4. Whom would you like to meet/have met?

Reinhold Messner. As a mountaineer he is an idol from my childhood days. Today, I like his attitude to nature and environment. He is still active with his foundation in Nepal, Bhutan, Peru and Tibet where he spent a great part of his live.

Also, Sir Winston Churchill, whom I find most aspiring as a leader.

5. If you could change one thing in the world – other than the corona crisis, of course – what would it be?

I would love to see people perceiving crisis not only as a bad thing, every crisis bears opportunities. I would love to help changing this mind set seeing the good and opportunity in every crisis. It’s about attitude and “attitude is a little thing, which makes a big difference” as Sir Winston Churchill put it…

6. What aspect of your company’s work are you most proud of?

It’s the point of making out something great of difficult situations. When I started at BlueSky Energy at the same week we received information that, back then, our one and only supplier for saltwater batteries went into bankruptcy. We knew that saltwater batteries are worth it to go ahead. We went into the bidding contest and stayed there till the final round. A great success for a small, privately owned company. However, we did not make the buy. With a great team and high spirits, we reworked our supply chain and found new suppliers. And now in 2020 we are starting series production of saltwater battery cells in Austria. Where we stand now with all that positive drive is based on a setback nearly four years ago. When live gives you lemons make lemonade. (mfo)
