Coveted solar parks in Spain

Q Energy has announced the sale of a solar portfolio with a total capacity of more than 76 MW in the Spanish province of Ciudad Real to an international investor focused on renewable energy. The portfolio consists of two separate solar projects, each with 38.3 MW of capacity, located in the municipalities of Manzanares and Brazatortas.

The company is a subsidiary of Hanwha Solutions (Korea) and comprises the former downstream division of German-Korean solar pioneer Qcells. Q Energy is active across the value chain of large-scale green energy projects and has an active development pipeline of around 15 GW in Europe. Around 6 GW of these are to be built on the Iberian Peninsula alone.

High demand for solar projects

Q Energy will install a total of more than 138,000 high-performance solar modules on trackers to maximize the plants' energy yields. The solar plants will generate enough emission-free electricity to meet the average demand of nearly 12,000 households in Spain, avoiding more than 34,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.

However, the PV park not only strengthens climate protection, but will also bring benefits to the surrounding ecosystem. In Spanish regions with plenty of sun and heat, the shade from the PV plants promotes soil moisture, improving conditions for flora and fauna.

Increasing demand for high-quality PV projects

Jaehan Lee, head of Green Energy Solutions, says: "We are seeing increased demand for high-quality PV projects, especially in partnership with experienced developers who can also build and then operate and maintain the plants. As Q Energy, we offer just that: the right deals and the expertise. The negotiations for the current sale were completed after just three months. We are therefore also considering the sale of other selected projects. However, our main focus remains on successfully developing our existing projects while expanding our pipeline in the country."

Mauro di Fiore, Head of Construction, added: "Q Energy will use as many local suppliers as possible in the construction of the solar power plants. Initial site work has recently begun. Based on our long EPC experience under the umbrella of our former and current sister company Qcells, we are confident that we will be able to commission the plants in 2024." (hcn)
