Sweden: Boost for PV through innovative funding scheme

The environment-focused lender Hemma has linked with Skandia, the insurance giant, and a number of solar companies including Ecokraft to enable domestic customers in Sweden to purchase solar PV systems on their mortgage. Qualifying householders who move their housing loan to Hemma will pay an attractive interest rate, while installers such as Ecokraft expect to win more customers.

“Working with others, we’re making it easier and more profitable for Swedes to switch to green energy,” said Oscar Gustavsson, CEO of Ecokraft. “We’re very happy about this – it’s a big boost for solar in Sweden.”

Tobias Persson, Nordics Sales Manager at Solarwatt, said the new loans align with Solarwatt`s long-term approach and long-life products – its glass-glass panels carry an industry-leading 30-year warranty on product and performance.

“Solarwatt glass-glass panels supplied in Sweden by Ecokraft can operate up to 50 years or more, for a safer investment,” said Tobias Persson. “This is a clear advantage over PV systems with glass-foil panels, which have much shorter lifespans and without doubt would need to be replaced within the duration of the mortgage. With Ecokraft, you buy once and benefit long-term. We believe this news advances the green energy revolution and are preparing for increased demand as people wake up to solar."

"This is a practical, economical way of encouraging people to take responsibility for switching to cleaner energy and battling climate change”, added Pol Spronck, Sales Director UK, Ireland and Nordics at Solarwatt.

Ecokraft, winner of a prestigious Dagens Industri fast-growing company award in 2020 and  a Solarwatt outstanding achievement award last December, is increasing its workforce to 180 this year. The company grew turnover by 364% in three years to 2019 and is targeting 2.5 billion SEK (~€246 million) in 2025. (hcn)
