R.Power, a pan-European independent power producer (IPP) with a growing multi-technology portfolio, and GEN-I, a regional trading partner and asset optimiser, have signed a long-term agreement relating to the Scornicesti utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Romania.
The 127MW / 254MWh project is a significant energy storage asset in Romania to secure an optimisation contract. GEN-I will act as the exclusive asset optimiser and trading partner, responsible for commercial optimisation across wholesale power and ancillary services markets, receiving a share of the profits with a guaranteed minimum revenue for R.Power.

Contract duration and project milestones
The contract covers the period from the start of commercial operation until the fifth anniversary of full revenue activation, including ancillary services. The agreement represents a milestone for the project, co-owned by R.Power and its joint venture partner Eiffel Investment Group, following Eiffel’s acquisition of a 49.9% equity stake in the system in October 2025.
The agreement is part of R.Power’s strategy to expand its operations in Central and Eastern Europe, focusing on flexibility assets. The Polish company regards BESS as important for renewable energy integration and power system stability and continues to develop its multi-technology portfolio, combining photovoltaic projects, battery energy storage and hybrid solutions across European markets.

More recent developments at R.Power
In December 2025, R.Power began construction of its 20MW Klotze Solar Park in Saxony-Anhalt, marking its first utility-scale photovoltaic project in Germany. The project benefits from a 20-year support contract awarded under the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) auction system. It forms part of R.Power’s German portfolio, which now includes over 115MW of solar capacity awarded in the German Innovation Auction organised by Bundesnetzagentur. The company signed a long-term optimisation agreement for the Jedwabno BESS project (150MW / 300MWh) in Poland in early 2026. (mg)
