Topic of the Week: Off-grid (Part 2): Container-based battery-hybrid power generator

With the best will in the world, sometimes when you're far off-grid, fully and exclusively relying on renewables is great, but having a back-up can provide peace of mind:

Aimed at both grid-connected and off-grid applications, Firefly’s PowerPlus Hybrid Power Generator addresses a growing demand for reliable and sustainable micro grid solutions across different sectors, especially remote sites with little or no access to the grid, or locations currently relying on traditional diesel generators for power. The PowerPlus HPG is equipped with a diesel generator, but the integrated high-capacity batteries and smart programmable controller and battery management system make the HPG capable of working from 100% renewable energy sources, including wind and solar. This can reduce the diesel generator to the role as an emergency backup, usually during peak demand or to re-charge the batteries.

The Powerplus comes with a built-in management system allowing for complete control of power production. Energy consumption and usage are monitored in real time and recorded for analysis, either via the built-in seven inch touchscreen, or using Firefly’s online management tool, GLOW RFM. It powers all Firefly battery hybrid products, offers complete remote control over the unit via the web, troubleshooting, detailed environmental reporting, as well as a host of more advanced capabilities, such as user-programmable logic solutions, individual outlet configuration, and custom e-mail notifications. The resulting power system is quite easy to operate and maintain.

PowerPlus is aimed primarily at organisations seeking a complete and reliable micro grid power solution for remote or unattended installations, telecoms infrastructure, construction sites and emergency response scenarios. It will enable many industries to reduce their carbon footprint and utilise renewables in places which may not have been considered before. (mfo)
