Czech firm lines up 307 MW of storage, including direct transmission

The hardware comes from GAZ Energy, a Czech manufacturer with roots in the long-established German battery maker Geräte- und Akkumulatorenwerk Zwickau, while control software is developed in-house by Second Foundation to keep data and operational control within European infrastructure. GAZ Energy, which operates a production facility in Bohumín, is building out a European production base for battery storage systems with integrated control technology.

Why trading is central to BESS profitability

The largest of the three projects, in Tušimice, will provide 200 MW and 400 MWh, making it the largest battery storage facility in Czechia once operational and the first to connect directly to the ČEPS extra-high-voltage transmission grid via a privately operated substation. A second site in Stonava will deliver 87 MW and 180 MWh, and a third in Vraňany 20 MW and 40 MWh.

The three developments represent a combined investment of around €160 million, making them the largest private commitment to flexible energy assets in the Czech Republic to date. They are being developed in partnership with GAZ Energy, ADI, Decci, RSJ Investments and the Ungelt Group, with flexibility capacity optimised by Nano Energies, a Czech subsidiary of Second Foundation.

How smart energy systems keep Europe’s industry competitive

GAZ Energy operates a production facility in Bohumín and is currently manufacturing battery systems for European projects totalling 1,500 MWh, many developed jointly with Second Foundation. The systems run on proprietary energy management and battery management software developed by Second Foundation, keeping data and operational control within European infrastructure. (hcn)
