Belgium – Wärtsilä 50 MW / 100 MWh storage wins CRM tender

Construction is under way, with completion scheduled for the second quarter of 2027. “This project with Wärtsilä underscores our commitment to dependable, flexible energy in Belgium,” said Guillaume Poncelet, Managing Director of Kallima Energies, the Liège-based project developer.

Gramme 1 is Wärtsilä’s first energy storage project to participate in the CRM, a framework designed to safeguard Belgium’s energy supply by enabling assets to deliver essential grid services, including frequency and voltage support, thereby strengthening system resilience and reliability.

The Gramme 1 site will use Wärtsilä’s GridSolve Quantum2 energy storage system together with its GEMS control and optimisation software, providing a standalone, fully integrated solution to enhance grid flexibility, reliability and sustainability. Wärtsilä will deliver the project under an engineered equipment delivery contract, with guaranteed asset performance secured through a separate long-term service agreement.

With Gramme 1 under way, Wärtsilä’s energy storage portfolio in Europe now exceeds 2.7 GWh. (hcn)
