NL – 1.5 MW floating PV powers sand extraction in Drenthe

Delivered by Dutch developer Solinoor and equipped with high-efficiency Vertex N modules from Trinasolar, the project is configured to maximise on-site consumption rather than feed into the grid. The system generates a substantial share of the facility’s electricity demand, with output managed through an integrated smart power control system.

By prioritising direct consumption, the installation sidesteps grid connection bottlenecks that continue to affect parts of the Netherlands and wider Europe. Electricity is delivered directly to the end user without export, maximising efficiency and reducing reliance on external infrastructure.

NL – Schoonschip floats new approach to virtual power plants

The Ellertshaar installation points to a pragmatic model for floating PV: small- to mid-scale systems tied directly to industrial loads. In this case, a sand extraction site is repurposed to generate electricity for on-site use, avoiding both land-use conflicts and grid constraints. (TF)
