METLEN adds 198 MW solar-plus-storage project to UK pipeline

Hybrid solar and storage continues to consolidate its position in the UK as developers and investors seek assets that combine predictable generation with flexible revenue streams. The latest project, developed with Cero Generation and UK partner Enso Energy, will connect to the West Burton 132 kV substation near Doncaster in northern England, with METLEN also responsible for delivering the associated grid connection infrastructure. Construction is expected to begin shortly.

Britain breaks records as renewables approvals soar in 2025

Once operational, the solar component is expected to supply electricity equivalent to the annual demand of around 12,300 homes and avoid more than 13,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year. The scheme will be delivered under a dedicated environmental management plan, in line with increasingly stringent biodiversity requirements in UK planning.

METLEN reports more than 2.3 GW of solar capacity and approximately 1.6 GWh of battery storage across completed and pipeline projects in the UK and Ireland, spanning more than 80 renewable energy projects. Globally, 1.6 GW of owned projects are currently under construction. Listed in London, the company continues to focus on the UK as a core growth market for renewables and storage, mirroring a broader European trend towards pairing generation with batteries. (TF)
