Italy – RWE scales wind and solar build-out to 235 MW

Last year, RWE began construction of its first commercial-scale agri-PV plants, which are now entering commissioning: Morcone (9.8 MW) and Acquafredda (9.3 MW) in Campania. In parallel, the company is advancing two onshore wind farms – Serra Palino (47 MW) in Apulia and Venusia (45 MW) in Basilicata.

RWE to develop two large agri-PV plants in Italy

The ground-mounted solar parks Ponte Valentino 1 and 2 (19 MW) are under construction in the municipality of Benevento. More than 32,000 modules will be installed across 25 hectares, with commissioning scheduled for 2026.

New agri-PV totalling 38.2 MW

RWE is also developing four advanced Agri-PV plants:

• Acquafredda 2 (11.7 MW) – Campania

• Enna (9.5 MW) – Sicily

• Carcitella (8 MW) – Sicily

• Cava (9 MW) – Calabria

All four projects are scheduled for commissioning in 2026 and will use elevated or high-tilt mounting structures to enable agri-pastoral use. Depending on the site, sheep will graze beneath the panels or crops will be cultivated. The elevated structures also provide protection against hail, frost, drought and heavy rainfall. To further advance agri-PV deployment, RWE will monitor plant performance and collect meteorological and agricultural data.

KEY 2026 – advancing new investment models

66 MW of onshore wind in Sardinia

In 2026, RWE began construction of the Alas onshore wind farm, which will be equipped with ten 6.6 MW turbines for a total capacity of 66 MW. Commissioning is scheduled for 2027.

The Serra Giannina wind farm, which secured a contract in last year’s FER-X auction, is due to begin construction in the coming weeks. RWE will install six turbines in Potenza, Basilicata, with a total capacity of 42 MW. (hcn)
