DNV, the Norway-based assurance and risk management firm, will serve as owner’s engineer for the Abydos 2 project in Egypt. In this role, it will act as an independent technical advisor to the project owner, overseeing feasibility studies, design reviews, construction supervision and commissioning.

Located in the desert region of Benban, the project faces a range of technical and environmental challenges – including extreme temperatures, dust accumulation and complex grid integration requirements.

“Projects of this scale demand both technical rigor and regional insight,” said Santiago Blanco, Executive Vice President and Regional Director for the Middle East at DNV.
The project is developed by Dubai based AMEA Power and will supply 3,100GWh of solar energy to more than 500,000 Egyptian homes. In addition to decarbonising Egypt’s energy mix, the project is expected to create approximately 4,000 jobs during construction. (hcn)
