Ukrainian company SOLARsk has completed the country’s first solar power plant built around its own HSAT HORIZON STR-111 single-axis tracker system. The project marks a milestone for Ukraine’s solar energy sector and signals the strong potential of domestic clean energy technologies.

The new solar plant covers 1.75 hectares and delivers 997.84 kW of installed PV capacity, with a permitted grid connection of 800 kW. The project features 38 units of SOLARsk’s HSAT HORIZON STR-111 single-axis tracker, developed and manufactured entirely in Ukraine. Construction was completed in just five months, demonstrating the company’s engineering expertise and the readiness of its tracker technology for wider deployment.
Smart tracking technology
The HSAT HORIZON STR-111 system automatically adjusts the tilt angle of PV modules throughout the day, tracking the sun’s movement to maximise exposure. According to SOLARsk, its proprietary control algorithm can boost energy yield by up to 20 percent compared to fixed-tilt systems, with the largest gains during peak electricity price periods in the morning and evening. The system is designed to optimise both overall generation and revenue, which has become increasingly important under Ukraine’s new market pricing rules.

Impact and next steps
By deploying the HSAT HORIZON STR-111, the new plant is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by about 20 percent compared to conventional fixed-mount systems of similar capacity. The estimated payback period for the project is up to seven years. Looking ahead, SOLARsk plans to expand the site and integrate a battery energy storage system (BESS) to further stabilise output and enhance profitability.

Resilience amid ongoing challenges
Despite the ongoing war and repeated missile attacks near its headquarters and production facilities, SOLARsk continues to operate at full capacity. The entire team remains in Ukraine, maintaining high operational standards and meeting the demands of international markets. These efforts underscore the resilience and technical capability of Ukrainian engineering, even under exceptionally challenging circumstances. (TF)
