NL – TU/e students build solar ambulance with 715 km range

The solar ambulance developed by Eindhoven University of Technology's Solar Team covers up to 715 km under favourable solar conditions and reaches 120 km/h. Rooftop photovoltaics power both the vehicle and its onboard medical equipment, including defibrillators and portable X-ray units, with an integrated battery ensuring operation at night and during low irradiance.

The team selected AIKO's ABC (All Back Contact) cells for their high efficiency and durability. Copper interconnection reduces the risk of micro-cracks from off-road vibration, while low degradation and stable temperature performance support continuous power delivery to the medical equipment on board.

Developed over 11 months by 23 students, Stella Juva follows the team's earlier Stella Vita and Stella Terra projects. The prototype will now enter field demonstrations and operational testing in real-world medical scenarios. (hcn)
