Volytica takes over battery monitoring of electric buses in Latin America

The provider of charging solutions for electromobility Enel X has set up the charging infrastructure for electric buses in various Latin American cities. Enel X is cooperating with Volytica to make charging as battery-friendly as possible. The Dresden-based company has developed diagnostic software for the batteries of electric vehicles. With the cooperation between Enel X and Volytica, this software for monitoring the condition of electric bus batteries will be integrated into the charging infrastructure. This will set important standards for operational efficiency, sustainability and transparency in the field of electric transport.

Launch in Mexico

Initially, Enel X will integrate Volytica's diagnostic software into the landing infrastructure of the municipal transport company Metrobús in Mexico City. Metrobús has already started commissioning 51 new electric buses on Line 3 in February 2023 to set the course for sustainable and efficient transport. This will be followed by the integration of the software in the charging infrastructures of other cities.

The collaboration between the two companies aims to drastically improve the battery performance and therefore the operating efficiency of electric bus fleets. Preventive maintenance measures should help to extend the potential service life of batteries.

Effectively avoid downtimes

Thanks to the strategic integration of Volytica's battery monitoring, public transport operators can use the data to carry out proactive maintenance measures and thus effectively avoid unplanned downtime. The solution detects unusual battery behaviour at an early stage and at the same time promotes transparency regarding the condition of the vehicles by providing insights into maintaining and improving performance.

Investigating the reuse of disused batteries

The two project partners are also investigating possible second-life applications for the batteries. These include the reuse of batteries from electric vehicles for stationary electricity storage, which can be used in green energy projects or to stabilise the power grid.
