Electric transport:

Electric lorry drives 1,099 kilometres in 23 hours without recharging

The logistics service provider DPD Switzerland, the electric lorry brand Futuricum and the tyre manufacturer Continental joined forces for the record attempt. For this, the partners used the lorry of the manufacturer Futuricum, which has been in use for DPD Switzerland in regional transport for half a year. "For DPD Switzerland, we converted a Volvo FH to electric drive. Now the 19-tonne lorry has over 680 horse power and, with a capacity of 680 kilowatt hours, the largest lorry battery in Europe on board," explains Adrian Melliger, Managing Director of Designwerk Products, the company behind the Futuricum brand.

392 laps adding up to a total of 1,099 kilometres

On Continental's own test track, two drivers completed a total of 392 laps at an average speed of 50 kilometres per hour in shifts of 4.5 hours each. With the record, the partners have set an example for a future with sustainable drives in delivery traffic and also demonstrated the suitability of today's technologies for everyday use: "We decided early on to invest in electric mobility. The Futuricum truck has now been travelling between the depot in Möhlin near Basel and the distribution centre in Buchs Zurich for around six months," says Marc Frank, Strategy & Innovation Director at DPD Switzerland. "The e-lorry manages the daily distance of around 300 kilometres without any problems." (mfo/nhp)
