Claritas secures CfDs in Romania and advances battery storage in Poland

Claritas Investments is expanding renewable energy activities in Central and Eastern Europe, with progress across both the Romanian solar photovoltaic market and the Polish energy storage sector. In Romania, the company has secured contracts for difference (CfDs) for 169 MWp of its solar PV portfolio in Arad County, part of Western Romania. The projects are included in a broader 550 MWp cluster, supported by grid connection agreements with Transelectrica that were concluded earlier this year.

Advancing Romanian solar portfolio

According to Dirk Lamottke, managing director of Claritas Investments and head of project development in Romania, the CfDs represent a key milestone that enables the start of construction. Once operational, the portfolio is expected to deliver clean electricity to thousands of households and offset more than 285,000 tonnes of CO₂ each year. Claritas has expanded its Romanian pipeline beyond 550 MWp, benefiting from favourable land conditions and access to 400 kV grid infrastructure in Arad County. Development is advancing towards ready-to-build status, with part of the portfolio to be entered into upcoming CfD auctions.

Energy storage project in Poland

In Poland, Claritas has submitted a 9 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) to the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) subsidy programme. The scheme, launched earlier this year, is part of a PLN 4 billion (€1 billion) programme co-financed by the EU Modernization Fund, which aims to deliver more than 5 GWh of storage capacity by 2028. The subsidy could cover up to 45 percent of capital expenditure through a mix of grants and loans, with final results expected in early Q4 2025.

Project status and regional strategy

The project has already secured Capacity Market revenues in the 2023 auction and is progressing towards ready-to-build status, with commissioning scheduled for early 2027. In parallel, Claritas continues to broaden its regional presence with a strategic focus on utility-scale PV, BESS, and related clean energy infrastructure. (mg)
