Vattenfall invests in a 76-megawatt Agri-PV project

According to current plans, construction for Tützpatz is to start in early summer 2023. The aim of the Agri-PV project is to combine module types on different rack systems with suitable forms of agricultural use and thus to gain further practical experience for future commercial projects of this kind. An area of 95 hectares is available for this purpose.

Agri-PV project Symbizon about to start in the Netherlands

Vattenfall is already testing the Agri-PV concept in the Symbizon pilot project in the Netherlands. The project will soon go into operation not far from Almere. With an installed output of 700 kilowatts, it is comparatively small. In Germany, experts estimate that there are currently about 20 small and medium-sized agri-PV projects, each in the single-digit megawatt range.

The German government's goal is to expand electricity generation from photovoltaics to 215 gigawatts in 2030, half of which will be on open spaces. "Agrivoltaics can make a contribution to achieving these goals here in addition to classic ground-mounted solar parks. With the Tützpatz project, we are now developing this young technology on a commercial scale," explains Claus Wattendrup, Head of Solar at Vattenfall. Agrivoltaics could also increase biodiversity and serve as an additional source of income for agriculture. (nhp/mfo)
