Patent for light-weight photovoltaics revoked

The German Patent and Trade Mark Office in Munich has revoked Solartension's patent for light-weight systems using photovoltaic films. That makes it easier to utilise such architectural elements.

As reported by the architecture database Solar Age, in the future it will be permitted to build solar installations featuring PV films without infringing on patents: Solartension, a manufacturer of light-weight PV architectural elements based in Stuttgart lost their patent on “solar systems including multiple electricity-generating film-based components” that had been granted in 2015.
