Storage rental:

Feresto rents out electricity commercial and industrial storage

In order to make the advantages of battery storage available without the need for great investment, Fenecon is now also offering commercial and industrial storage units for rent through its new subsidiary Feresto GmbH (Fenecon Rental Storage).

While self-consumption storage with solar systems can usually be planned well over a long period of time, the use of electricity storage at charging parks, in industrial peak shaving or at events is highly profitable, but can only be planned for limited periods of time. This can make the investment more difficult.

Matching costs against savings

This is precisely where Feresto comes in with its rental offering: Thanks to the use of electric vehicle batteries, the container storage units of the Fenecon Industrial series are very powerful and fully mobile. Users only pay for the period when storage is needed and the manageable costs can be set against clear savings - without burdening the investment budget outside of their core business.

One example is seasonal peak shaving for summer- or winter-specific operations, which is only necessary for a few months and would leave a storage unit unused for the rest of the year. Or the lucrative power reduction in the high-load time windows or even the emissions-free and noiseless power supply for events.

Growing with demand

Thanks to the Fems energy management system from Fenecon, the applications can be easily activated via apps. But the many new charging parks at companies or in retail outlets also lend themselves to this: With a rented storage unit, they can quickly go into operation and grow with demand.

A country that already has a thriving market for rental storage is the Netherlands, including a number of online platforms that make finding the right solution easier. In order to now bring the benefits of such a service to the rest of Europe, Feresto offers storage units from 30 kilowatts and up to several megawatts. "This is possible from as little as one day and up to five years," explains Leonhard Kriegl, managing director of the new company. "For prospective customers who are thinking of making a purchase, a prior rental offers the opportunity to test the intended use case." However, short-term rentals will, for the time being, be limited to the Netherlands.

Rental storage fleet successful during tests

The rental storage fleet has already enjoyed great popularity in the test phase and is being continuously expanded. The financing model developed in parallel offers investors a good financial investment with a high stability of value for the storage systems.

Similar to the rental of construction machinery and the many established pay-per-use models, rental storage systems help to conserve valuable resources and reduce downtime. They allow risk-free testing. If the storage requirements change, extensions or exchanges are easily possible. (HS)
