EnBW expands its business around solar self-consumption and virtual power sharing communities

Partners are inverter manufacturers Kostal, Fronius, SMA and KACO and solar battery manufacturers Sonnen, Mercedes Benz and Ads-Tec. Over 100 installers, mainly in southern Germany, are cooperating with EnBW at the moment.

Planned distribution to Austria, Switzerland and other European countries

“We are in the stage to enlarge our network and plan to expand our distribution to Switzerland, Austria and other European countries”, Dominik Gluba, Business Development Manager Energy Base told pv Europe. EnBW is also distributing Energy Base and EnBW solar+ as white label products to city utilities. As the next step the company is seeking to partner with e-car manufacturers.

Huge market for upgrading PV installations

“We see us as a platform provider and system integrator”, Gluba said. The main goal of Energy Base to optimize solar self-consumption. Gluba sees a huge market for upgrading existing PV-installations. EnBW is also offering turnkey PV and storage solutions in cooperation with his partners.

Connection options for heating systems

The Energy Base box has a scale of only several square centimeters with connection options for a PV-system, a home battery, heating elements and heat pumps and a wall box.  ‘”Those devices can be controlled directly”, Gluba says. It is designed for mainly for batteries with a power range of five to eight kilowatt hours. Power sharing is possible through the cloud community EnBW solar+ or the integration in virtual power plants.

Integration of EEBus standard starting in spring 2017

Starting spring 2017 the standard EEBus will be implemented for the Energy Base box to extend the compatible devices, also heating devices, Gluba told pv Europe. The software of Energy Base was developed by a spin-off of EnBW. (hcn)
