Using augmented reality design solar installations

Scanthesun is an augmented reality (AR) mobile application for designing efficient, and therefore cost-effective solar installations that streamlines the design of a PV installation and can help to save time and money.

The solution is based on the use of the multi-core CPU in every modern smartphone. Not only is the design of a solar power system calculated taking into account the ambient influences, but also the distribution of the solar radiation is precisely simulated for the entire year and broken down into individual months. This allows a four-dimensional (space and time) yield map to be put together, which shows the distribution of shading in the system and its changes over time. In turn, this results in a forecast of the energy yield of the solar system as well as a forecast of the power generated as a function of time for any day of the year.

Via Wi-Fi, it is possible to quickly create a final report available online for the investor, which includes additional graphs, forecasts and evaluation of the designed installation. The entire process takes only one minute, requires no expertise and with AR, there is no need for an employee to visit the roof and take physical measurements - everything can be done standing next to the building.
