Tailwind for PV in Sweden

With 1,366 W of installed solar electricity per inhabitant, Skurup municipality once again takes  home first place in ranking Solarcellstoppen . Skurup's total installed capacity is 23 MW.

Second place is taken by Sjöbo with 1,159 W per inhabitant and third place by Borgholm  takes Borgholm with 943 W per inhabitant. At the bottom is Haparanda with only 7 W of installed solar power per inhabitant.

Almost 2.4 GW installed PV capacity in Sweden

„Solar power is spreading all over the country, now there are only a few northern northern municipalities where solar modules are still a marginal element. What many do not know is that cold in itself is not a disadvantage for solar energy, as solar modules actually have a better efficiency the colder it is“, says Anna Werner, CEO of the Swedish Solar Energy Association (Svensk Solenergi).

The fact that solar electricity production is spread out across the country is good, both from a abor market policy and security policy perspective, Werner adds.

Did you miss that? Sweden: Record PV growth

The total installed PV capacity in Sweden is now 2,384 MW, an increase of 34% from 2021, an increase of 1,514 percent since December 2016. Then there was 14 W installed per inhabitant, today there are up to 226 W per inhabitant. This can be compared with the European leader the Netherlands 1,044 W per inhabitant, which thus has almost 5 times more installed PV per person than Sweden. In 2022, 55,333 new photovoltaic systems were installed in Sweden, at the end of the year there were a total of 147,691 installations.

Installers safety on rooftops an important topic

„The important thing now that we are experiencing such rapid growth in solar energy is that that work environment and safety continue to be taken very seriously. Working on a roofs is associated with potential danger to life. Working preventively and increasing competence in these issues is Svensk Solenergi's absolute main focus" , says Anna Werner. (hcn)
