Interview SOFAR

„Increasing synergy between PV and energy storage“

Mr. Cao, what new solutions did you present at Intersolar Europe 2023 in Munich?

We launched three new solutions to further expand our product portfolio, effectively widening the range of applications for our inverter and energy storage solutions, and with a focus on the latest, most advanced intelligent energy management systems.

Firstly, we launched the SOFAR PowerNano, our first microinverter system for residential solar. The PowerNano is perfectly compatible with 182/210 mm high-power PV modules and as a full solution, consisting of a microinverter, smart home hub and AC battery, it can be used in various scenarios, for example plug-in solar systems, residential grid-connected systems and residential energy storage systems.

We also revealed the SOFAR PowerIn, our most recent C&I energy storage solution. Its pack-level active balancing increases the usable battery energy by 5%. Another remarkable feature is its modular design combined with maintenance-free spare batteries, effectively saving costs and ensuring a stable power supply.

Finally, the SOFAR PowerMaster is our latest energy storage solution for utility projects. It features a modular design and is packed in a container. The system power goes up to 3.44 MWh. The PowerMaster adopts an innovative air and liquid hybrid cooling system which ensures grid resilience amidst demanding operating conditions and maximizes the product’s lifetime.

What is the USP of SOFAR in your point of view?

We offer one of the broadest portfolios of PV and energy storage solutions for residential, C&I, and utility applications, including microinverter systems, PV inverters ranging from 1–350 kW, hybrid inverters ranging from 3–125 kW, battery storage systems, utility ESS and the SOFAR Monitor smart energy management system. Since the beginning, we have always focused on leading the industry, being innovative with independent R&D. Recently we also finished the first stage of our new production base which is designed for the net-zero future. These facilities boast cutting-edge technologies in robotization and automation, which ensure top quality products.

Can you outline your business strategy for Europe?

We focus on combining reliable, intelligent PV and energy storage solutions with a strong local service. We are gradually expanding our network throughout Europe and strengthening our cooperation with qualified installers. Through a strong local presence, we ensure providing the best service.

How do you assess the market trends regarding solar and energy storage systems?

There is an increasing synergy between PV and energy storage solutions. Especially in the residential sector they now go hand in hand, but there is a significant increase in C&I projects as well. Especially since the various crises in Europe, there has been a focus on diffusing intelligent energy management systems to the public, to effectively produce and consume electricity.
