Statkraft wins bid for combined solar and battery project

The authority had invited bids for a total of 400 megawatts of capacity for the innovation tender deadline in May 2023, which is intended to enable outstanding renewable projects. With a combination of a solar plant with a connected battery on the site of a former gravel pit, the group was able to prevail.

The Federal Network Agency has also promised a market premium for the electricity from the Zerbst solar and battery park. The solar park will provide 47 megawatts and thus arithmetically supply around 14,000 households. The connected battery storage system will have an output of 16 megawatts and will be designed for a two-hour power input and output.

Statkraft: 300 to 500 megawatts per year

With its bid, Statkraft took advantage of a regulation that is valid only for 2023, according to which the permissible bid amount for solar plants can be more than 20 megawatts. "We are currently growing strongly and aim to commission between 300 and 500 megawatts of wind, solar and storage capacity per year in the future," said Claus Urbanke, head of German wind, solar and storage development at Statkraft. The energy company says it has already started the tender process for selected plant components. From probably summer 2025, the plant could generate and store renewable electricity. (nhp/mfo)
