New hybrid PV plant from Solaris strengthens Bulgaria’s grid

The Selanovtsi PV power plant has an installed capacity of 59.8 MW and a storage capacity of 107.3 MWh, with projected annual generation of 79,892.71 MWh. Spanning nearly 38 hectares, the site hosts 103,116 PV modules and is set to play a key role in advancing Bulgaria’s decarbonisation targets. The storage system uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, known for its reliability, safety and long service life.

Grid-friendly

The storage system enhances the grid compatibility of the entire facility by storing surplus energy during peak solar generation and releasing it to the grid during low production periods. In light of Bulgaria’s ageing grid infrastructure, the concept offers an effective way to integrate more renewable energy into the existing network – without requiring rapid grid expansion.

Meet the Investors

Eurohold Bulgaria is an energy and finance group active across Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, with shares listed on the Sofia and Warsaw stock exchanges. The group includes Electrohold, Bulgaria’s largest electricity supplier, employing more than 3,000 people and serving nearly 3 million customers. SUNOTEC, a Bulgarian-German company, holds a 12% share of the European industrial PV construction market and employs over 2,000 people.

Proven partnership

Solaris Holding is a joint venture between Bulgarian-German solar solutions provider SUNOTEC and Eurohold Bulgaria. To date, the company has delivered more than 600 MW of renewable energy projects and 2,000 MWh of storage capacity in Bulgaria. The Selanovtsi PV project provides competitive green energy, enables flexible energy delivery through its storage system, and helps ease grid congestion. (mg)
